Wheel and Flap Position Indicator Kit, AN-5780-2, US Navy, New Old Stock

$95.00

Here is a Type AN-5780-2 Wheel and Flap Position Indicator used in WWII and post WWII aircraft with a nose wheel (vs tail wheel aircraft).  According to the US Army Air Force Interchangeability Cross Reference Chart dated February 1945, the AN-5870-2 indicator was used in bombers B-26, A-26, and A-20, as well as in the fighter P-38.  The position of the wheels were indicated by the 3 small window insets, one each on the nose and each wing. The position of the flaps was indicated in the small window inset at the bottom, by showing increments of quarter fractions from Up to fully extended Down.

This version, by General Electric Part Number 8DJ17AAT, was made to the specification of the US Navy (see spec sheet in photo gallery).  This is the instrument with its installation kit, New Old Stock, in its original carton containing installation instructions and mounting screws.

Since there weren't many aircraft of the US Navy with a nose wheel during this era (most were carrier-based tail-wheel aircraft), we are speculating that this indicator was used on the WWII-era land-based US Navy/Marine Corp B-25 variant, the PBJ-1 (see photo from its flight manual dated 1944) and the post WWII US Navy fighter the twin-engine F7F Tigercat (see photo from its flight manual dated 1947).
