Askania
Gyro Horizon, Electrical, Luftwaffe Fl.22410-1 Wendehorizont
This is a example of the electrical Fl.22410-1 Wendehorizont, or Gyro Horizon, as used in aircraft of the German Luftwaffe during WWII. Likely made by Askania. According to various reference sources on the internet, this instrument was used in aircraft such as the Bf109G, Do335, FW190 A5-6, and Me262. See photo of Bf109G cockpit.
The knurled rim around the glass lens can be rotated (this one is a bit stiff), which in turn cages (Fest) or releases (Los) the gyro. There is a floating-ball bank indicator at the bottom of the lens. The black screen behind the horizon has a bit of corrosion centrally, see photo.
Measures approx 4 inches diameter and 8 inches deep. It is in reasonable condition given its age.
