Altimeter AAU-8/8A 35,000FT
This is a Cold War / Vietnam War era Altimeter, Type AAU-8/8A, made by Aerosonic, part number A35-AUU-8A/A, indicating altitude to 35,000 ft, used in aircraft of the US military. The exact type of aircraft has not been determined at this time, but is similar to that used in the AH-1 Bell Cobra Attack Helicopter of the US Army. Given the maximum altitude application of 35,000 ft, it make sense that this may have been specified for helicopters.
The knob in the lower left corner adjusts the altimeter for the barometric pressure, as indicated in the small window at the 3:00 position. This altimeter has a service stamped date of March 1991.
The indicator is in exceptional cosmetic condition, the glass and case are intact, the knob turns, and the lettering is clear and precise. There is a small rattle when shaken.
