Computair
Flight Computer, Test Pilot's, Douglas DC-8 United Air Lines
This is an authentic Flight Computer specifically for the Douglas DC-8 jet airliner by Computair for United Air Lines. We estimate that it is from 1958/59 since it is labeled "PRELIMINARY PERFORMANCE DATA" and the DC-8 entered service with United Air Lines in 1959. According to documents of its prior owner, a retired UAL Pilot who flew DC-8's, this was designed to be used by test pilots and may be the only one in existence. We have never seen another.
This is a rather large (12.5 inches diam) and heavy (~1.5lbs) flight computer, and comes in its custom vinyl case. It has 3 disks and a dual front/back arm that rotate around a main disk to calculate specific information.
It is in terrific condition given its age. A very special item indeed.
