Bendix
Compass, Magnesyn Remote Indicating , Bendix 10078-1T US Navy F7F
Here is a Remote Indicating Compass, Magnesyn style, made by Bendix for aircraft of the US Navy, such as the F7F Tigercat fighter and versions of the PBY Catalina and PBM-5 Mariner patrol bombers (see illustration from the F7F flight manual dated 1947). It has a service stamp of NAS Alameda (Naval Air Station Alameda CA) dated 1952. The Magnesyn compass indicator received an electronic signal from a remotely located compass transmitter (which avoids magnetic interference from the engines and other instruments). The course setting pointer can be turned to the desired course, which will coincide with the compass reading once on course.
It is in exceptional condition given its age. The glass and case are intact. Measures 3.25in diameter and ~4in deep.
