Wing Leading Edge Temperature Indicator, US Navy 1960 P-3 Orion

$29.50
This offer is for an authentic Wing Leading Edge Temperature Indicator, Type 8, Model 1122, made by Fenwal for the US Navy's Sub Hunter / Patrol Bomber Lockheed P-3 Orion.  This instrument appeared on the P-3 Flight Status Panel in a section called Wind Leading Edge Skin Temp, where the condition of the wings were monitored during flight. The scale reads from -50degC to 175degC.  It red lines at 110degC, whereby a red light would illuminate on the panel if this temp was reached.  The Wing De-icing System worked by channeling (or bleeding) heated air from the engines thru ducts to the wings, which was controlled on the Bleed Air panel just above the panel that contained this indicator.  This indicator provided a feedback loop to the crewman thus enabling him to ensure proper wing temperature.
It is in very good shape given its age.  The dial markings are clear and the glass and case are intact. It has a date stamp of May 2, 1960, which would place this in one of the first P-3's to enter service (first P-3 flight was 1959, full production started 1961). It measures 2in diameter by 3 in deep.
