Here is a WWII-era Airspeed Indicator, Type 98 as made by Yanagi, and used in a variety of aircraft of the Japanese Army (see Army star stamp on data plate), including the infamous Oscar "Army Zero", Nick, and Frank fighters. It displays airspeed up to 700 KPH.  Measurement begins at 50 KPH along the outer scale with the pointer at the 6 o'clock position, rotating clockwise as speed increases up to 390 KPH, at which point airspeed is indicated along the inner scale up to 700 KPH.

This indicator was used in aircraft of the Japanese Army such as*:

  • Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa Fighter "Oscar" "Army Zero"
  • Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate Fighter "Frank"
  • Kawasaki Ki-45 Toryu Fighter "Nick"
  • Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien Fighter "Tony"
  • Kawasaki Ki-100 Fighter

*According to Funatsu Aviation Instruments Museum
