Compass, Navigational, Armée de l'Air, Vion Type HA 82

$395.00

This is a fine example of a Navigational Compass as used in aircraft of France, likely pre-WWII.  Made by E.Vion, Type H.A.82, it rests in its original wooden box with leather strap.  The compass is affixed to a mounting bracket, which could be attached to either a vertical or horizontal surface of the aircraft.  Small levers on either on either side of the round 'vibration mounts' tighten and release the security of the grip of the mount to the compass body. The compass has a adjustable glass prism that permits reading of the compass from an angle without having to view from directly overhead. (The prism has a small chip in its lower left corner). It has an electrical light fixture with bulb intact.  The liquid has since evaporated, leaving witness marks on the inner glass.  The compass body can be released to turn in its cradle.

The stencil on the box "Rose 82m/m" appears to be the diameter of the compass card, or 'rose', at 82mm.

The compass body measures ~4.5 inches diameter and ~3.5 inches deep.  The box is 10 inches wide, 7 inches in height, and 8 inches in depth.
