Gun Train/Elevation Meter, Radar Fire Control, US Navy Ships Turret, CW-22AAD, WWII

$49.00

Here is an interesting WWII US Naval gunship artifact: a Gun Train/Elevation Meter.  This indicator was positioned at the Turret Trainers Station within a gun turret of a battleship or a cruiser, signaling to the Turret Trainer if the 'laying', or aim, of the guns needed to be trained (turned) left or right, and if the barrels should be depressed or elevated. The meter received its signal from the radar-controlled range-keeper, and judging from the attached antenna, probably received them wirelessly.  The signal would cause the needle to traverse left or right of center, thus instructing the Trainer to position the guns accordingly.

The meter was part of a Radar Fire Control system.  The CW-22AAD meter was used with Gun Directors Marks 33, 34,37, and 38.  Gun Director Mk 34 was used in USN cruiser classes Baltimore, Cleveland, and Fargo.  Gun Director Mk 38 appeared in USN battleships North Carolina, South Dakota, and Iowa.

The meter measures 7in x 6in x 5in.
